Italian fashion group Aeffe SpA, the parent company of popular brands Moschino and Alberta Ferretti, faced a significant decline in sales during the first half of 2020. Sales plummeted by 31.4 percent, dropping from €173.3 million to €118.9 million compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the company reported a net loss of €10.9 million, a stark contrast to the net profit of €5.1 million in the first half of the previous year.

These disappointing results can be directly attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a decrease in consumer spending. In response to these challenges, Aeffe SpA took several strategic steps to lessen the blow. One of the measures taken was expanding their outsourced production base to ensure the timely delivery of their Fall/Winter 2020 collections. Additionally, the company developed an advanced “virtual showroom” to showcase their new collections to buyers and industry operators who were unable to travel due to restrictions.

Within the first half of the year, wholesale revenue declined by 28.3 percent, amounting to €86.7 million, while retail sales saw a significant decrease of 41.3 percent, totaling €27.1 million. The company’s EBITDA for the period fell to €0.6 million. Despite the challenges faced, Aeffe SpA remains committed to navigating through these difficult times and adapting to the changing circumstances in the fashion industry.

It is worth noting that the decline in sales was not limited to the Italian market alone. In Italy, sales decreased by 34 percent, amounting to €52.7 million, as both wholesale and retail channels were affected by strict measures implemented to stem the spread of the virus. In the rest of Europe, sales dropped by 4 percent, reaching €37.1 million. The Asian and the rest of the world market experienced a drastic decline of 45.2 percent in sales, totaling €24.9 million. Sales in America also took a nosedive during the first half of the year, with a decline of 55 percent, amounting to €4.1 million.

As the fashion industry continues to grapple with the repercussions of the pandemic, Aeffe SpA and its subsidiary brands are working tirelessly to adapt to the new normal. Despite the current challenges, the company remains resolute in delivering high-quality fashion collections and ensuring customer satisfaction. By leveraging innovative technologies and exploring new avenues to reach buyers and industry operators, Aeffe SpA is determined to overcome these obstacles and emerge stronger in the post-pandemic fashion landscape.
