Paris-born designer and former buyer for Acne Studio and Prada, Ahlem Manai-Platt, is celebrating a significant milestone in her career. After successfully running her own luxury eyewear brand, Ahlem, for eight years, she has recently announced an exciting collaboration with Los Angeles musician Beck. The collaboration stemmed from their mutual admiration for each other’s work. Ahlem has specially designed two eyewear models that perfectly reflect Beck’s personality and style. One model is an acetate, octagonal frame, catering to Beck’s reserved temperament, while the other is a gold metal frame with interchangeable day and night lenses, ideal for concerts and party nights. These limited-edition models, with only 50 of each available, are offered in two colors and can be purchased in Ahlem boutiques and on the Mr Porter website. Each pair also includes a case with patterns designed by Beck himself. This collaboration follows Ahlem’s successful partnership with artist Leon Bridges. Additionally, Beck showcased his musical talent on the harmonica in a promotional clip for the capsule collection.

Ahlem Manai-Platt gained recognition for her elegant and innovative eyewear frames, all crafted in France. The brand has received support from notable celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kate Moss, and Kendall Jenner, further enhancing its popularity. With a presence in over 400 stockists worldwide, Ahlem has achieved success not only in Los Angeles but also in New York, where the brand recently opened a store in early 2020. The store, situated on Elizabeth Street in the trendy Lower East Side area, was designed in collaboration with Shapeless Studio Architectures & Interiors and was awarded the NYCXDESIGN 2021 Prize for its exceptional creativity and innovation in retail design. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ahlem’s sales continue to soar, experiencing a record growth rate of over 186% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. Looking ahead, Ahlem has plans to expand its reach further with the opening of a third store in San Francisco this summer, showcasing the brand’s commitment to organic growth and artistic freedom. With a team of 26 employees, Ahlem is eager to collaborate with renowned designers in the future, expressing a particular desire to work with rapper Future and artist Michael Kiwanuka, who are highly admired by Ahlem. As Ahlem continues to make its mark in the world of luxury eyewear, the brand and its dedicated designer are set for a bright future.
