Atterley, an online fashion marketplace headquartered in Edinburgh, has made an exciting announcement about its latest addition to the team. Former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman will be joining the company as a strategic adviser. Shulman brings a wealth of experience and influence to the fashion industry, having served as the editor-in-chief of British Vogue for an impressive 25 years, making her the longest-serving editor in the magazine’s history. She is also the author of the recently released book, “Clothes… and other things that matter.”

Mike Welch, the founder and chairman of Atterley, expressed his enthusiasm about Shulman joining the team. He believes that her timing is perfect, as the company is currently experiencing rapid growth. Atterley has ambitious plans to increase boutique recruitment, engage with fashion brands, and expand its consumer outreach efforts. Welch sees the brand as not just a retail destination, but also a trusted fashion reference point for consumers.

The Atterley website provides a platform for over 250 independent boutiques to compete with larger rivals. During the lockdown, the company witnessed a significant surge in sales, with a remarkable year-on-year growth rate of 200%. As more shoppers turned to online retail due to store closures, Atterley became their go-to destination for fashion.

To support its expansion into overseas regions, including the United States, and further develop its marketplace technology, Atterley has launched a crowdfunding campaign with the aim of raising £400,000. With two weeks remaining, the campaign has already surpassed the £356,000 mark, with support from 159 investors.

Shulman is thrilled about her new role and emphasizes her admiration for how Atterley supports independent boutiques. She believes that these boutiques are a vital and enjoyable part of the fashion industry. Shulman also underscores the importance of successfully combining online and bricks-and-mortar retail for the benefit of both retailers and customers. She looks forward to seeing more people embrace the experience and discover the well-priced and well-sourced fashion available on the platform.
