German consumer goods company, Beiersdorf, has announced its acquisition of prestige beauty brand, Chantecaille Beaute Inc. Chantecaille, based in New York, is renowned worldwide for its innovative skin care, fragrance, and cosmetics products. As part of the acquisition, Chantecaille will continue to operate as a separate entity under the Beiersdorf umbrella, serving as a complementary selective brand. This strategic move is expected to enhance Beiersdorf’s premium skin care offerings, particularly with the addition of La Prairie.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Chantecaille has shown resilience and is projected to generate global sales exceeding $100 million in 2021. The brand’s enterprise value is estimated to fall between $590 million and $690 million. Beiersdorf aims to leverage this acquisition to strengthen its position in key markets such as the United States, China, and Korea, aligning with its C.A.R.E.+ strategy.

Vincent Warnery, the CEO of Beiersdorf, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting the company’s desire to bolster its presence in the prestige beauty sector. Warnery stated, “Through the acquisition of Chantecaille, we are bolstering our portfolio in prestige beauty and strengthening our position, especially in the United States, China, and Korea.” He also emphasized the alignment of Chantecaille’s philanthropic approach to global environmental concerns with Beiersdorf’s sustainability agenda.

Sylvie Chantecaille, CEO and founder of Chantecaille, expressed her satisfaction with the partnership, emphasizing the importance of finding a great steward to take Chantecaille to the next level. Chantecaille’s core values aligned with those of Beiersdorf, making them an ideal choice for the brand’s growth and acceleration in the natural beauty market.

The acquisition was facilitated by financial advisors Lazard and Jefferies, with legal advice provided by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Kirkland & Ellis, respectively.

Beiersdorf’s expansion into the prestige beauty sector through the acquisition of Chantecaille solidifies the company’s commitment to growth and innovation. By strengthening its presence in key markets, Beiersdorf aims to offer consumers around the world a wider range of premium skin care options.
