The British Fashion Council (BFC) has joined forces with payment specialist Square and buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) giant Clearpay to launch an innovative program that aims to assist emerging designers in establishing their online stores. This bespoke program provides designers with technical support, mentorship, and access to an e-commerce platform, enabling them to create a strong online retail presence for their brands.

The primary objective of this partnership is to accelerate business growth for these designers and increase their revenue by making their collections accessible to millions of e-commerce customers worldwide. As part of the BFC’s business development program, designers supported by the BFC Foundation for the 2022/23 year will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in Square and Clearpay’s e-commerce mentoring package. Additionally, they will receive one year of free access to Square Online.

The program offers several benefits to the first 10 designers who express their interest. These benefits include waived e-commerce processing fees for sales worth up to £10,000, with standard rates applying thereafter. Designers will also receive complimentary access to the Square Online Performance Plan for one year, as well as upfront consultation, mentoring, and training to guide them through the process of creating their retail websites.

Paula Corcoran, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Square Online, expressed her excitement about offering this comprehensive e-commerce opportunity to a group of innovative designers. She emphasized the significance of building a distinctive online presence for any business and being able to accept payments in multiple ways.

Rich Bayer, UK Country Manager at Clearpay, added that by providing emerging designers supported by the BFC with free access to the Square eCommerce platform, they are fulfilling a key objective of their principal partnership with London Fashion Week. This objective is to support British retail and nurture new designer talent. Through the integration of Clearpay within the Square platform, designers will have the ability to offer Clearpay to their customers and tap into Clearpay’s audience of young and engaged shoppers, thereby enhancing their chances of success in the industry.

This collaboration between Square, Clearpay, and the BFC showcases a strong commitment to supporting and fostering emerging talent in the fashion industry. By providing valuable resources and assistance, these organizations aim to empower designers and help them thrive in the highly competitive digital marketplace. Access to the Square Online platform and mentorship from industry professionals will undoubtedly contribute to the success and growth of these emerging designers, establishing them as the future leaders of the fashion world.
