Decathlon’s football brand, Kipsta, has recently achieved a major accomplishment by securing a valuable deal with UEFA, the governing body for European football. Starting from 2024 until 2027, Decathlon will become the official football supplier for UEFA’s Europa League and Conference League competitions, taking over from the previous supplier, Molten.

This contract is a significant milestone for Decathlon and its Kipsta brand, as it marks their entry into the sport performance segment. In 2022, Decathlon made its foray into the market by supplying match balls to France’s top two football leagues, Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT. They expanded their reach in the following year by providing match balls to Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. The agreement with UEFA further solidifies Decathlon’s position in the football equipment industry, showcasing their growing presence and influence.

Although the specific models of footballs to be utilized in UEFA competitions have not yet been disclosed by Kipsta, the brand has emphasized the superior quality of its products. Kipsta’s official match balls are renowned for their seamless design achieved through thermal adhesive bonding technology. These footballs offer exceptional sphericity, durability, and an extremely stable flight trajectory. All Kipsta footballs are meticulously designed and rigorously tested at Decathlon’s Kipstadium facility in Tourcoing, France.

Fabien Brosse, the deputy managing director in charge of products and sports at Decathlon, expressed his satisfaction with UEFA’s selection of Kipsta as the official football supplier. He considers it a significant recognition of Kipsta’s expertise in providing high-quality performance products that meet the strictest standards. Brosse also highlighted Decathlon’s commitment to supporting both amateur and professional sports worldwide.

Decathlon’s collaboration with UEFA aligns with its broader strategy of engaging with athletes at all levels, from amateurs to professionals. The retailer strives to cater to the needs of amateur sports practitioners by offering affordable prices and products suitable for daily use. Simultaneously, they aim to establish connections with professional sports and athletes. For example, Decathlon recently extended its partnership with the NBA (outside of the USA) until 2029. They also sponsor notable French athletes such as tennis player Gaël Monfils, sailor Yannick Bestaven, and middle-distance runner Paul Chelim. Moreover, Decathlon has assembled a dream team of 33 French athletes, led by judo champion Teddy Riner, for the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Decathlon’s commitment to providing high-quality sporting goods, combined with its focus on both amateur and professional athletes, has positioned the company as a significant player in the industry. Through its partnership with UEFA, Decathlon and Kipsta solidify their status as leaders in football equipment, ensuring top-notch performance and quality for athletes participating in UEFA’s prestigious competitions.
