Depop, the popular fashion resale marketplace, has announced a change in leadership. Current CEO Maria Raga will be stepping down from her position after eight years with the company. In her place, Kruti Patel Goyal, the chief product officer of Depop’s parent company, Etsy, will be taking over as the new chief executive starting September 12.

Raga shared her bittersweet decision to step down in a LinkedIn post, stating that she wants to take a break and spend more time with her family. Despite leaving her position, Raga will continue to support Depop as an advisor until the end of September.

As Goyal transitions into her new role as CEO, she will also be relocating to London, where Depop is headquartered. Raga expressed her enthusiasm for welcoming Goyal to the UK and introducing her to Depop’s community. She is also eager to showcase the vibrant fashion and tech scene in London.

Etsy CEO Josh Silverman spoke highly of Depop, stating that the company is an authentic and relevant re-commerce brand with immense growth potential. He believes that Goyal is the ideal leader for Depop’s next chapter, highlighting her past successes in leading Etsy through significant transformations and motivating teams to achieve results.

Silverman also commended Goyal for her contributions to improving the shopping experience on Etsy, transforming product development culture, and scaling teams. He added that Nick Daniel, who will be taking over Goyal’s role as VP of product management at Etsy, has also made valuable contributions to the company and its stakeholders.

The leadership changes at Depop and Etsy are seen as positive steps towards further growth and improvement in customer experience. Both Raga and Goyal have played pivotal roles in their respective companies, and their contributions have been recognized and appreciated. The fashion community eagerly awaits Depop’s continued success under Goyal’s leadership.
