Frasers Group, known for its aggressive acquisition strategy, has recently made another move in expanding its portfolio. The company has acquired John Anthony, a reputable premium menswear retailer. While the exact amount paid for the business remains undisclosed, John Anthony currently operates five physical stores located in southwest England, specifically in Bristol, Bournemouth, Bath, Swindon, and Southampton. In addition to its brick-and-mortar locations, the retailer also operates an e-commerce website.

With 44 years of establishment, John Anthony has long been recognized as an independent player in the UK menswear market. The retailer has built a strong reputation for its carefully curated mix of designer collections, featuring both emerging and well-established labels. Some of the notable brands available at John Anthony include Acne Studios, Belstaff, Cole Buxton, Fred Perry, Hoka, Hugo, Vivienne Westwood, and Dsquared2.

According to filings with Companies House, the previous owners of John Anthony, Mark Brewer, Alastair Irvine, and Tony Stuckes, are no longer serving as directors of the business. Frasers Group, known for its ability to acquire businesses at discounted prices, has been making significant acquisitions in recent times. These include major stakes in Boohoo Group, N Brown, and ASOS, as well as taking over MySale. Frasers Group has also made acquisitions from JD Sports, including SneakerBoy, Gieves & Hawkes, and The Mall shopping centre. However, the company has also sold a previous acquisition, Missguided.

Speculations have arisen regarding Frasers Group’s potential interest in acquiring luxury retailer Browns if struggling online platform Farfetch decides to sell it. The future of the John Anthony brand under Frasers Group is uncertain, as it remains to be seen whether the company will retain its individual identity or merge it with one of its existing operations. Frasers Group’s Flannels chain also focuses on providing luxury fashion for both men and women, as well as beauty products.
