Hermès, the luxury giant, has reported impressive sales growth in the first quarter of this year. The company saw a 33% increase in sales at current exchange rates, totaling €2.765 billion. At constant exchange rates, sales rose by 27%. This growth can be attributed to strong sales in their own stores, particularly in America and Europe, as well as sustained growth in the Leather Goods division.

Axel Dumas, the executive chairman of Hermès, credited this strong growth to the desirability of their collections and the confidence their customers have in their artisanal and responsible approach. Despite the uncertain consumer and business environment, Hermès is ramping up its strategic investments, recruitments, and training to support the growth of all their business lines.

In terms of regional performance, sales in Asia (excluding Japan) increased by 20%, benefiting from a successful Chinese New Year and steady activity in countries such as Thailand, Singapore, and Australia. However, Greater China has been hit by new health restrictions and store closures.

Meanwhile, Hermès saw a 17% rise in sales in Japan, continuing the trend of growth in the country. The Americas experienced a significant surge of 44% in sales, driven by a strong momentum in the US market. Europe, excluding France, also performed well with a 44% increase in sales, while France itself saw a 40% increase. The company noted sustained growth in the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

All of Hermès’ business units achieved impressive results in the first quarter. Ready-to-wear and accessories experienced a 44% sales increase, while Leather Goods and Saddlery grew by 16% due to increased production capacity and sustained demand. The Silk and Textiles business line achieved a 27% sales increase, and Perfume and Beauty saw an 18% increase. Watches had an outstanding performance with a 62% increase, while other business lines, including Homeware and Jewelry, saw a 37% increase.

Looking ahead, Hermès acknowledges the challenges posed by the ongoing health situation. However, the company remains confident in its highly integrated craftsmanship model, balanced distribution network, and the loyalty of its customers. In the medium term, Hermès aims to achieve ambitious revenue growth at constant exchange rates, despite economic, geopolitical, and monetary uncertainties.
