Italian menswear brand Ermenegildo Zegna and Los Angeles-based Fear of God have formed an unexpected partnership, defying expectations and highlighting their shared vision. The collaboration, unveiled in Paris, seamlessly blends ease, elegance, casual style, and class. Despite the differences in size and reputation, Zegna and Fear of God have found common ground in their design approach. Alessandro Sartori, Zegna’s master tailor, and style conceptionalist, and Jerry Lorenzo, the founder of Fear of God, have created a collection that beautifully marries their individual aesthetics.
One of the standout features of this collaboration is the joint venture’s logo, which combines Zegna’s bold lettering with the Fear of God typeface. While over 95% of the fabrics used in the collection came from Zegna’s renowned mills, Fear of God contributed innovative denim and a light but dense cotton used in roll-neck tops. The overall silhouette of the collection differs from Zegna’s traditional offerings, with looser and more forgiving cuts, wider shoulders, and a relaxed fit. The range includes suits, double-breasted leather blazers, and rockstar-inspired chalk-stripes, all infused with a contemporary twist. Drawing inspiration from various sources, such as Pierre Cardin and iconic films like Miami Vice and Superfly, the collection is a true reflection of the designers’ creativity.
Attention to detail is evident throughout the collaboration, especially in the neckline design of the pieces, intended to be worn without ties. Silk tops featuring zippered funnel-necks add a sophisticated touch. Lorenzo explains that the collection fills a gap in the fashion industry, making tailoring accessible and less intimidating to a younger audience who typically opts for hoodies and sweats. The duo began working on the collection in Milan 18 months ago, taking their time to create a cohesive range that truly embodies their vision.
Zegna and Fear of God’s collaboration showcases an array of garments, including checked Chesterfields, suede shirt-jackets, and plush lambskin jerkins. Lapels are omitted or casually styled, and pants are often paired with cummerbunds or wide waistbelts. Jackets are designed with Henleys and soft collar tops, resulting in tailoring that is both modern and appealing to a younger generation. The fabrics used in the collection are exceptional, such as a unique Donegal knit that adds an unexpected twist to traditional materials.
The collection, officially titled Fear of God exclusively for Ermenegildo Zegna XXX, consists of 39 looks, complemented by gray suede moccasins and smart boots. It will be available in over 30 Zegna stores, major department stores, and online retailers. CEO Gildo Zegna expressed his excitement for the collaboration, recognizing its potential to reach a new clientele. Overall, this collaboration showcases the power of teamwork in the fashion industry, as two designers have come together to create a collection that embodies their shared vision and appeals to a contemporary audience.
