To present the new Spring-Summer 2022 collection, Jacquemus opted for an out-of-the-ordinary initiative, choosing a far-away-from-home location. Indeed, the fashion show was held by the sea on a beach in the Hawaiian Islands: a venue thousands of kilometers away from the other landmarks selected by Jacquemus for Paris Fashion Week.
In addition to models, the event also hosted several celebrities, including SZA, Jhené Aiko, and Kim Jennie from BLACKPINK. The K-pop star was spotted in Paris few days earlier on the occasion of the Chanel Fall/Winter 2022 presentation during Paris Fashion Week.
Simon Porte Jacquemus, who for the first time made his fashion show out of France, set up a striking blue walkway on the beach, making “Le Splash” (name of the show) a tribute to the importance of water. Garments, accessories and footwear make the blue color the undisputed protagonist, with various references to water sports, such as that of the snorkel of the mask carried by hand by the models, as if it were a bag.
The models, chosen mainly from the local population, walk on a turquoise walkway by the sea, in the shade of palm trees. The palette explores all the colors of the sea: from the golden beige of the sand to the turquoise of the waves, passing through light blue, lime green, coral pink and warm orange. The show opens with white linen suits with sunglasses “hooked” to the thigh, followed by checked suits and tight jumpsuits as if they were revisited diving suits.
Small pebbles or transparent crystals are sewn onto sweaters, dresses and skirts, suggesting the sparkle of water on the skin, like when you lie down on the beach after a dip. The bags are big, for modern adventurers or smaller, with the curved shape of the sea waves. Simon Porte has chosen to slip off the official Fashion Week calendar using the See-Now Buy-Now formula: the collection will be immediately available in stores. The highly selected VIP guests of the show, in fact, are already wearing them.
