Jessica Simpson’s family is making moves to potentially repurchase her fashion brand, The Jessica Simpson Collection, from Sequential Brands Group Inc., the parent company that recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The family has reportedly offered $65 million for the brand.

Sequential Brands Group Inc. had to file for bankruptcy due to its significant debt totaling around $435 million. As part of its bankruptcy proceedings, the company plans to hold an auction to sell off its various brands, which include The Jessica Simpson Collection, Gaiam, Avia, Joe’s Jeans, And1, Spri, and William Rast.

According to Bloomberg, Sequential reached a preliminary agreement with the Simpson family just before filing for bankruptcy. The family would serve as the stalking horse bidder in the auction for the Jessica Simpson brand. The negotiations are ongoing, and the company hopes to finalize the deal in the next few weeks.

In addition to the potential deal with the Simpson family, Galaxy Active and Centric Brands, two of Sequential’s existing partners, have also expressed interest in leading the bidding for other assets of the company. These agreements would establish a minimum price for the brands being auctioned, pending court approval.

Galaxy Active has offered an initial bid of $333 million for Sequential’s active division, while Centric Brands, which already holds a long-term license for Joe’s Jeans, is offering $42 million for the Joe’s Jeans label.

The Jessica Simpson Collection initially started as a shoe line in collaboration with Vince Camuto of Nine West in 2005. Over the years, it has expanded to include clothing, accessories, home goods, and fragrances.

Reacquiring her eponymous brand would be a significant move for Jessica Simpson, who has established herself as a successful entrepreneur in the fashion industry. By regaining ownership of her brand, she would have greater control over its future direction and potentially drive its growth and success even further.

As the negotiations between Sequential and the Simpson family continue, it remains to be seen how this business transaction will unfold. However, it is evident that Jessica Simpson’s brand holds immense value and is highly sought after in the fashion industry. With her family’s bid, there is a strong possibility that she will once again be in charge of her eponymous brand.
