Lacoste has recently announced an expansion of its partnership with tennis as it becomes the official sponsor of the Mutua Madrid Open. The iconic French brand, established in 1933 by René Lacoste and André Gillier, will serve as the official clothing and footwear sponsor for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from April 24 to May 7, 2023 in Madrid.

Through this sponsorship, Lacoste will provide clothing for various individuals involved in the event, including line judges, ball boys and girls, members of the organization, volunteers, and court staff. Additionally, the brand will feature two dedicated stores at the tournament, showcasing its fashionable “sport” collection.

Catherine Spindler, Lacoste’s Deputy CEO, expressed her enthusiasm regarding the partnership, emphasizing the strong connection between Lacoste and tennis. She highlighted the fact that tennis transcends being just a sport, representing a lifestyle, and believes that the Mutua Madrid Open effectively embodies the essence of the sport.

Gérard Tsobanian, President and CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open, commended Lacoste as an “absolute reference in the world of fashion in general and sports in particular.” He is confident that this collaboration will elevate both the brand and the tournament to new heights.

Lacoste has a rich history of partnering with tennis, having collaborated with renowned players such as Venus Williams, Novak Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev, as well as emerging talent like Ugo Humbert. Furthermore, the brand has been a partner of the iconic French Roland Garros tournament since 1971.

With its expansive global retail network of 1100 boutiques across 98 countries, Lacoste has solidified itself as a leading fashion brand. Although the company has not disclosed its exact turnover, reports suggest that it has exceeded 2 billion euros in sales over the past four years. Lacoste recently established a flagship store on the prestigious Champs Elysées in Paris, further cementing its presence in the fashion industry.

The partnership with the Mutua Madrid Open serves as a testament to Lacoste’s unwavering dedication to tennis and its commitment to promoting the sport’s unique spirit and style. As Lacoste continues to expand its influence, it remains a prominent player in the intersection of fashion and sports.
