London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu has expanded his brand by launching a menswear collection, adding to his already renowned womenswear line. This marks his official entry into the menswear segment, following his previous collaboration with H&M in 2017. The Spring/Summer 2022 collection consists of 36 looks that embody the same aesthetic found in his womenswear designs.

The menswear collection exudes a laid-back and comfortable vibe, drawing inspiration from workwear but enhancing it with a touch of sophistication. Warm tones dominate the color palette, including red, navy, ochre, beige, yellow, and ruby red. Knitwear plays a central role in the collection, with sleeveless sweaters, loose pullovers, and mohair cardigans. Some pieces feature cable-knit patterns, while others offer turtleneck designs for added coziness. Cargo trousers in velvet or cotton, paired with tuxedo-style belts, complete the looks.

Aside from knitwear, the collection includes an array of shirts, shorts, jackets, trench coats, capes, and gabardine jumpsuits. The jumpsuits, available in monochrome or flowery Toile de Jouy patterns, contribute to the relaxed and artistic vibe of the collection.

To showcase the collection, images were taken on the beach at West Wittering in the south of England, creating a poetic and melancholic atmosphere. Prices for the collection range from €590 for knitwear to €1,700 for the trench coat.

Moralioglu drew inspiration for the menswear collection from the interplay between masculine and feminine self-expression. He imagined a younger brother of his moody female protagonist wearing her clothes in his own unique way. During the design process, the designer explored the fashion style of artist Derek Jarman, deepening his understanding during the lockdown. He also turned to British artist Patrick Procktor for the collection’s color palette.

This menswear collection is just the beginning for Erdem, as Moralioglu plans to continue expanding on it in the forthcoming seasons, following a similar approach to his successful womenswear line. Erdem Moralioglu, who was born in Montreal to a British mother and Turkish father, received his fashion education at Ryerson University in Toronto and the Royal College of Art in London. He gained valuable experience working with Vivienne Westwood before establishing his label in London in 2005. Since then, his designs have garnered recognition for their elegant femininity, contemporary style, and meticulous attention to detail.
