Luxury group LVMH is continuing its investment in Italy by acquiring a minority stake in Masoni Industria Conciaria SpA, a tannery located in Santa Croce sull’Arno. Fabrizio Masoni, the founder of Masoni, has sold the stake to LVMH Métiers d’Art. The objective of this acquisition is to provide long-term support to Masoni SpA, with the aim of strengthening its creativity, artisanal innovation, entrepreneurial strength, and international development.

A key aspect of this deal is the preservation of jobs at Masoni. All current employees will be retained, with potential for future hires. Currently, the company employs 60 individuals. Having been established in 2001 by Fabrizio Masoni, the tannery has experienced substantial growth and now occupies a space of 10,500 square meters while producing approximately 600,000 square meters of leather in 2018.

Fabrizio Masoni has expressed his hope for a fruitful partnership with LVMH Métiers d’Art, as both parties have a strong sense of mutual respect. In his new role as chairman of the board of directors and delegated administrator, Masoni will be responsible for managing the business, with support from a newly-formed board that includes Marco Pessi, Federica Martini, and two representatives from LVMH Métiers d’Art.

This is not the first time that LVMH has made such a strategic investment. The company has actively worked on establishing an international sustainable development strategy with its suppliers through the LVMH Métiers d’Art project. In the past, LVMH collaborated with the Koh brothers to develop Singapore’s Heng Long tannery and acquired French tannery Roux in 2012, as well as a stake in Spanish tannery Riba-Guixà.

With a portfolio of 75 brands, LVMH’s presence in the luxury industry continues to expand through strategic partnerships with key players in various sectors, including tanneries like Masoni Industria Conciaria SpA. By making these investments, LVMH aims to support the growth and development of these companies while preserving their heritage and craftsmanship.
