Matchesfashion has officially announced that Nick Beighton, the former CEO of ASOS, will be taking over as its new CEO. Following the unexpected departure of Paolo De Cesare, Beighton will assume his new role in August after De Cesare completes his responsibilities in July.

De Cesare has chosen to leave Matchesfashion in order to explore other opportunities, although specific details have not been disclosed. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made during his time with the company, particularly highlighting the strengthened relationships with luxury brands and the recruitment of top talent.

Beighton, who recently joined Matchesfashion, brings a wealth of experience from his time at ASOS. Serving as the CEO for six years, he played a crucial role in the substantial growth of the UK-based e-tailer. Under Beighton’s leadership, ASOS saw revenues increase from £178 million to £3.9 billion, and the workforce expanded from 150 to 15,000 employees. Prior to his time at ASOS, Beighton held important positions at Matalan, where he oversaw business change and technology.

Besides his new role at Matchesfashion, Beighton currently serves as the part-time Chairman of Secret Sales. He commended Matchesfashion’s unique fashion perspective and curated selection, considering it a pioneer in the industry. Beighton sees untapped potential in Matchesfashion and plans to leverage his expertise in technology, product, logistics, and culture to drive further growth.

Tom Hall, a partner at Apax, which holds a controlling stake in Matchesfashion, praised the appointment of Beighton. Hall emphasized Beighton’s extensive knowledge of online retail and thanked De Cesare for his contributions.

Despite recent challenges, Matchesfashion is heading in a positive direction under De Cesare’s leadership. The company’s most recent financial results have shown improvement, indicating progress towards profitability. Beighton’s experience in navigating challenging retail environments, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, positions him well to tackle any obstacles that may arise.

With Beighton at the helm, Matchesfashion has made a wise choice for its new CEO. His impressive track record and industry expertise make him well-suited to lead the company to new heights. As the fashion retail landscape continues to evolve, Matchesfashion is in a strong position to capitalize on its unique offerings and further thrive in the luxury fashion market.
