There are few things that get the fashion world more excited than a celebrity wedding – more specifically, a celebrity wedding dress. From Kim Kardashian’s custom Givenchy bridal gown (courtesy of Riccardo Tisci) to Hailey Bieber’s gorgeous Off-White dress designed by the late Virgil Abloh, celebrity weddings tend to showcase the most elegant and beguiling couture that designers have to offer.
On 9 April, Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham finally tied the knot at her family’s oceanfront Palm Beach estate. Peltz wore a custom Valentino bridal gown that will surely land her in the long line of renowned celebrity bridal styles. The decadent gown is the definition of timeless, with an elegant simplicity that was all the more elevated through her carefully curated accessories, 90’s inspired hair, and sophisticated makeup look. The bride’s couture gown showcased the spectacular craftsmanship that can only be expected by Maison Valentino. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and his team worked alongside Peltz and stylist Leslie Fremar to create the brides dream gown; a year-long feat that Fremar could only describe as “the ultimate couture experience”. Initially envisioned to be an intricate and embroidered bridal ensemble, Peltz opted for a more understated look following various discussions and fittings with her styling team. Fremar described how “the simplicity of [the gown] was magnificent… We didn’t have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery”.
The square neck, column-style white silk gown (sinched perfectly at the waist, might we add) was accompanied by a spectacular train, and intricate French lace veil. The bride also opted for French lace opera-length gloves and diamond stud earrings; a simple yet stunning infusion of accessories that exude grace and sophistication. Peltz subverted the traditional expectation for wedding footwear, exchanging the quintessential bridal stiletto for 90’s-style satin platform heels (perhaps an homage to mother-in-law Victoria Beckham’s Spice Girl era?). The most thoughtful element of Peltz’s wedding gown was the evil eye and message from her mother, Claudia Heffner Peltz, hand-sewn with blue thread. A surprise to the bride, her mother’s incorporation of “something blue” into the skirt of her Valentino gown added an intimate, heartfelt detail to a refined and meticulously planned wedding dress.
Peltz’s wedding look would be incomplete without her bridal hair and makeup. The bride wore a half-up half-down ‘do that perfectly complimented her bridal gown – her source of inspiration? 90’s super model Claudia Schiffer. Speaking to Vogue, hairstylist Adir Abergel described how Peltz had been sending him “all these rad images of early Claudia Schiffer – including pictures of [Claudia] with bangs”. Abergel also pointed to 60’s icon Brigitte Bardot (known famously for her voluminous ponytail and curtain bangs) as a major influence for Peltz’s hair look – “think luxe, polished texture, but with fullness and movement to it”. The bride also opted for soft-glam on her big day, courtesy of Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee. Rather than take away from the bride, Lee’s intention was to “accentuate her natural features, while adding a few modern, not-so-traditional details.” Altogether, Peltz’s stylistic choices for her wedding day worked together to create a dreamy, romantic look – straight out of a 90’s fairy-tale.
Peltz was not alone in her carefully tailored wedding-attire, as her groom also showcased his impeccable fashion sense on his big day. Beckham donned a bespoke Dior piece, created by long-time family friend and menswear giant, Kim Jones. The immaculate wedding suit comprised of a black wool peak lapel tailcoat, straight-cut trousers and a white, cotton wing-tip collar shirt with plastron piqué. Beckham’s accessories exuded elegance, as he coupled his suit with a white bow-tie and pocket square, allowing for the jewellery adornments on his shirt, and the unique addition of a silver chain on the front, to take centre stage. Peltz also ensured that Beckham would receive his own heartfelt surprise, arranging for a custom label to be sewn into his jacket. While both couples opted for more understated fashion choices, their ensembles were far from simple and each were designed with an incredible amount of detail and an aura of sophistication.
The spectacular wedding ceremony was a star-studded affair, with celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Venus and Serena Williams, Gordon Ramsey, and more, making an appearance for the Beckhams’ big day.
