In response to the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), several North American retailers have announced the closure of their stores. Macy’s, Ralph Lauren, and Tapestry are among the companies taking this precautionary measure. Additionally, other retail giants like Deckers Brands, AEO, L Brands, Foot Locker, and Capri have also implemented store closures.

American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) has made the decision to temporarily close all American Eagle and Aerie stores in the U.S. and Canada until at least March 27. Along with this, AEO has implemented remote working and enhanced sanitization measures in their corporate offices. To further support its affected employees, AEO has set up a Relief Fund.

Capri, the parent company of luxury brands such as Versace, Jimmy Choo, and Michael Kors, will be shutting down all of its directly operated stores in North America and Europe from March 19 to April 20. Despite the closures, Capri has committed to maintaining pay for its store employees during this period.

Deckers Brands, the owner of popular brands like Ugg, Hoka One One, Teva, and Sanuk, has closed all Ugg stores in North America and Europe until March 31. Retail employees of Deckers Brands are still receiving pay and benefits, while corporate employees have transitioned to remote work.

Dover Street Market New York and Los Angeles are closed until March 27, while Dover Street Market in London, Ginza, Singapore, and Beijing remain open. Foot Locker has closed all of its stores in North America, EMEA, and Malaysia until March 31 but will continue to pay its store associates.

Kontoor Brands, the owner of well-known denim brands Wrangler and Lee, is closing all its owned and operated retail locations in North America and Europe from March 18 to March 27. Impacted employees will still receive pay and benefits during this time.

L Brands has temporarily closed all Victoria’s Secret, Pink, and Bath & Body Works stores in the U.S. and Canada until March 29. Office employees have been asked to work from home, and affected employees will receive pay and benefits.

Macy’s has taken the step to close all of its stores, including Bloomingdale’s, Bluemercury, and Market by Macy’s, until at least March 31. The company has committed to providing benefits and compensation to its impacted workforce.

Ralph Lauren has announced the closure of all North American stores from March 18 to April 1. Team members affected by these closures will receive their full standard pay. The company’s corporate offices remain open but have implemented travel restrictions and remote work policies.

Saks off 5th has closed all of its stores in the U.S. and Canada for a period of two weeks starting from March 18. Retail associates will continue to receive pay for their scheduled hours during this time.

Tailored Brands, the parent company of Men’s Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, Moores Clothing for Men, and K&G, has closed all stores in the U.S. and Canada until March 28. Employees will be compensated for their scheduled hours during this temporary closure.

Tapestry, the company behind popular brands like Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman, has closed all its stores in North America and Europe until at least March 27. Affected employees will receive full pay and benefits.

Ulta Beauty has also decided to temporarily shut all of its retail locations from March 19 to at least March 31. However, most stores will still be operational as pick-up points for online orders.

Vince, the fashion brand, has closed all its Vince and Rebecca Taylor stores in North America and the U.K. from March 17 to March 29. Retail employees impacted by these closures will be compensated for their scheduled shifts during this period.

These announcements come in response to the closures of various other North American retailers, including Nordstrom, Guess, Canada Goose, VF Corp, PVH Corp, Nike, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, and Urban Outfitters, who have all taken steps to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
