Indian cosmetics and fashion retailer, Nykaa, has partnered with Dubai-based apparel conglomerate, Apparel Group, in a move to expand its presence in the Gulf region. This strategic alliance comes as Nykaa looks to tap into the growing demand for beauty products in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, following a period of slower growth in the Indian market due to inflationary pressures.

Under the agreement, Nykaa and Apparel Group will jointly establish a multi-brand beauty retail business in the GCC countries. Nykaa will hold a majority stake of 55% in the entity, while Apparel Group will hold the remaining shares. The financial details of the partnership have not been disclosed.

According to Nykaa’s CEO, Falguni Nayar, the per capita consumption of beauty products in the Gulf region is exceptionally high. Nayar is optimistic about the long-term growth potential of this partnership, especially during the upcoming festival season that extends until the end of the year.

Nykaa had already predicted a stronger demand for beauty, personal care, and wellness products as the market showed signs of recovery in August. The company’s board, under its parent company FSN E-Commerce Ventures Ltd, approved the agreement between its subsidiary FSN International Private Ltd and Apparel Group. The newly established business will operate as an omni-channel, multi-branded beauty retail operation in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, and will be incorporated in the Abu Dhabi Global Market.

This collaboration is in line with Nykaa’s ambition to expand internationally while leveraging the strong brand presence and distribution capabilities of Apparel Group. The Gulf region, with its significant consumer base and growing focus on beauty and personal care, presents a lucrative growth opportunity for Nykaa.
