Poundland, widely known as a value retail giant, is making a bold move to dominate the winter clothing market. The company has decided to expand its clothing ranges across its 560 stores in the UK and Ireland. To do so, Poundland has revamped its family fashion departments and introduced new clothing lines from its parent company, Pepco, which is responsible for the Pep & Co fashion brand. Moreover, the refreshed and expanded clothing lines will also be featured in more than 75 new Poundland stores set to open by December. Interestingly, this includes 56 former Wilko locations that Poundland has acquired and will reopen as Poundland stores.

The purpose behind this expansion is to solidify Poundland’s position in the value end of the clothing market, particularly during the pre-Christmas season. In order to achieve this, the retailer has introduced new athleisure and lifestyle ranges such as Cardio Bunny and Bekkin. To cater to the young audience, Poundland has doubled the floor space dedicated to kids’ and baby clothing. This includes the introduction of Kukukid, a kidswear label from Pepco. Additionally, Poundland is leveraging Pepco’s extensive licensing partnerships to include popular licensed products in its new ranges, including Harry Potter, Gremlins, Tom & Jerry, the Moomins, Disney, Warner, and Star Wars.

Based on extensive studies, Poundland’s new clothing ranges offer a more affordable alternative compared to its main competitors, Primark, George at Asda, and F&F at Tesco. Thanks to Pepco Group’s significant buying power, which encompasses over 4,600 stores across Europe, Poundland has been able to reduce its average selling prices by 10%. Tim Bettley, Poundland’s commercial director, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering value by capitalizing on the scale of its parent company.

With its expanded and refreshing clothing ranges, Poundland aims to capture a larger share of the winter clothing market. By offering affordable prices and a diverse range of products, the company hopes to attract customers who prioritize both quality and value. Furthermore, Poundland’s strategic move of opening new stores and introducing licensed products positions it as a formidable competitor in the fast-paced world of value retail.
