Sally Beauty, a renowned beauty supply retailer based in Denton, Texas, has witnessed a remarkable surge in its e-commerce business amid the reopening of its physical stores. The company experienced a notable 9 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year, along with an astonishing 33 percent surge compared to the previous month, during the month of June. These positive figures have led to preliminary sales reaching an impressive $705 million for the full fiscal third quarter.

Sally Beauty’s extensive reopening of stores across the United States, Canada, the European Union, and the United Kingdom has played a crucial role in the sales boost. Additionally, the company has observed significant growth in its e-commerce operations. The online sales saw a remarkable 155 percent increase in June after experiencing substantial gains of 353 percent in April and 317 percent in May.

In order to support the flourishing e-commerce business, Sally Beauty plans to hire 120 new associates for various roles such as e-commerce, digital product development, technology, and analytics. The company is also focused on managing cash flow and ensuring ample liquidity, boasting over $815 million in cash reserves and an additional $200 million of undrawn capacity on its asset-based line of credit.

While the majority of store reopenings have been completed, Sally Beauty still has plans to reopen a small portion of its store fleet in parts of Mexico and South America within the next 60 days. The company initially closed its stores in March due to the widespread impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the withdrawal of its financial guidance for the full fiscal year 2020. Sally Beauty is now expected to release its full third-quarter results in late July.
