Skechers USA, Inc. has taken a significant step in the footwear market by shifting from a third-party distributor model to company-owned operations in the Philippines. To oversee its operations in the country, the American brand has established a subsidiary called Skechers USA Philippines, Inc. This strategic move aims to maximize growth prospects and strengthen Skechers’ presence in the Southeast Asian market.

Suzette Pasustento, the country manager for Skechers USA Philippines, expressed that the brand is currently in the process of reestablishing itself in the Philippines. In line with its expansion plans, Skechers has set up new offices in Manila and a distribution center to support its operations. The brand recently opened its first new store in Manila’s Alabang Town Center, with another store scheduled to open in Ayala Malls Manila Bay later this year.

Moving forward, Skechers plans to open 10 to 12 concept stores in the first half of 2022. The brand also intends to introduce new product categories and launch an exciting marketing campaign. By diversifying its offerings and enhancing promotional efforts, Skechers aims to captivate a larger consumer base in the Philippines.

Aside from its own stores, Skechers products will still be available in major department stores and specialty retailers across the country. Partnerships with renowned names like Planet Sports and The SM Store will contribute to the brand’s accessibility and market reach. It is important to note that Trendworks International, Skechers’ previous distributor in the Philippines, will continue to sell the brand’s products until the end of 2021.

Skechers recognizes the immense potential of the Philippine market and believes that transitioning to company-owned operations will unlock new growth opportunities. David Weinberg, the Chief Operating Officer of Skechers USA, Inc., emphasized that the brand’s appealing lifestyle collections and groundbreaking comfort innovations, supported by corporate backing, position the Philippines as a crucial market in Southeast Asia.

With a global presence in over 170 countries and territories, Skechers has firmly established itself as a leading footwear brand. The company operates through a network of 4,170 company and third-party-owned stores, as well as e-commerce platforms, department stores, and specialty retailers. In the third quarter of 2021, Skechers reported sales of $1.55 billion, representing a significant increase of 19.2% compared to the previous year. Net earnings for the same period reached $103.1 million.

As Skechers continues to expand in the Philippines, it is well-positioned to capture a larger market share and solidify its presence in Southeast Asia. With its commitment to delivering quality products and innovative designs, Skechers remains dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of consumers worldwide.
