Bernard Arnault is a renowned French businessman and art collector who is the Chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton SE, commonly referred to as LVMH, which is a luxury goods conglomerate. Born on March 5, 1949, in Roubaix, France, Arnault studied engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. He started his career in 1971, at his family’s construction company and later became the CEO of Ferinel, his father’s civil engineering and construction firm.
Arnault gained immense wealth and recognition after he took over LVMH in 1989. Over the years, he transformed the company into a global luxury brand, acquiring more than 60 luxury bands, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bulgari, and Fendi, among others. He is known for his strategic investments, which have helped LVMH to stay ahead of the curve in the industry and emerge as a top fashion powerhouse.
Arnault’s family is also involved in the luxury goods industry. His wife, Helene Mercier, is a French entrepreneur and the director of the prestigious Le Bon Marche department store. His three children, Delphine, Antoine, and Alexandre, are all involved in the fashion and luxury industry. Delphine is the CEO of LVMH’s flagship brand, Louis Vuitton, and has taken the brand to new heights, while Antoine is the CEO of Berluti and Alexandre is the CEO of German luggage maker, Rimowa.
With a net worth of over $180 billion, Arnault is one of the richest people on the planet and has been consistently listed in Forbes’ annual list of billionaires. He is also a philanthropist and has donated millions of dollars to various causes, including the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris.
