Drake is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur who was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario. He was born as Aubrey Drake Graham, and his parents, Dennis Graham and Sandi Graham, are both African American.
Drake grew up in a diverse neighborhood in Toronto and attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. He was an avid fan of basketball and music from a young age. His mother was a Jewish Canadian teacher and his father was a drummer for Jerry Lee Lewis, so he had an early exposure to different cultures and music genres.
In 2001, Drake began acting on the TV show “Degrassi: The Next Generation” as Jimmy Brooks. He was a cast member for seven seasons before leaving the show to focus on his music career.
In 2006, Drake released his first mixtape, “Room for Improvement,” which received positive reviews. He followed up with two more mixtapes, “Comeback Season” and “So Far Gone,” which received critical acclaim and garnered many new fans.
In 2009, Drake signed with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment and released his debut studio album, “Thank Me Later,” in 2010. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. His follow-up albums, “Take Care” (2011) and “Nothing Was the Same” (2013), were also critically acclaimed and commercially successful.
Drake has won a number of awards, including four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, and a record-breaking 27 Billboard Music Awards. He has also broken many records, including having the most charted songs (232) among solo artists and spending the most weeks (431) atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Aside from his music career, Drake is also an entrepreneur. He has his own record label, OVO Sound, and has partnerships with major brands such as Nike and Apple Music. He also owns a restaurant and a whiskey brand.
Drake has been involved in several high-profile relationships and is known for his philanthropy. He has donated millions of dollars to organizations such as the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and the National Bail Out Collective to aid protesters who were arrested during the Black Lives Matter protests.
In 2021, Drake released his sixth studio album, “Certified Lover Boy,” which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. He continues to be one of the most successful and influential musicians in the industry, with a net worth estimated at over $180 million.
