Biography
Larry Page was born on March 26, 1973, in Lansing, Michigan. He grew up in a family with a strong technological inclination, and was exposed to computers from an early age. Page attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering. He went on to complete a Master of Science degree at Stanford University in computer science.
In 1996, Page and his Stanford University colleague Sergey Brin founded Google, which quickly became the world’s most popular search engine. Initially, the two founders worked out of a garage in Menlo Park, California. Under Page’s leadership, Google developed several new products, such as Google Maps, Google Earth and Google Books, and expanded its reach to include other areas such as advertising and mobile phones.
In 2011, Page became the CEO of Google, taking over from Eric Schmidt. Page’s leadership style was characterized by a focus on long-term innovation and a willingness to take risks. Under his leadership, Google continued to innovate, launching new products such as Google Glass and Google+.
In 2015, Page restructured Google into a parent company called Alphabet, with himself as CEO of the new entity. As Alphabet CEO, Page focused on investing in diverse areas such as healthcare, renewable energy and artificial intelligence. He also continued to be involved with Google as a major shareholder. Page is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the tech industry, and has been named one of Time’s 100 most influential people multiple times.
