Biography
LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in a difficult neighborhood with a single mother who struggled to make ends meet. James turned to basketball as an escape and quickly became one of the best young players in the area. He attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School where he played both basketball and football, earning the title of “Mr. Basketball Ohio” three times.
In 2003, LeBron James was drafted as the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He quickly became a star in the NBA, winning Rookie of the Year in 2004 and leading the Cavaliers to their first Finals appearance in 2007. However, after struggling to win a championship in Cleveland, James made a controversial move to the Miami Heat in 2010. He led the Heat to four straight Finals appearances and two championships before returning to Cleveland in 2014.
In Cleveland, LeBron James achieved his biggest NBA feat to date, leading the Cavaliers to their first-ever championship in 2016. He was named the Finals MVP after an historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors. James continued to be a force in the league, earning his fourth MVP award in 2013 and playing in his eighth straight Finals in 2018.
Off the court, LeBron James is known for his philanthropic work with the LeBron James Family Foundation. The organization focuses on education initiatives for at-risk children and has provided scholarships and support to thousands of kids in the Akron area. James has also been a vocal advocate for social justice, speaking out on issues such as police brutality and racism.
