Biography
Miuccia Prada was born on May 10, 1949, in Milan, Italy, to a wealthy family of manufacturers. She earned a Ph.D. in political science and studied mime before becoming interested in fashion design. In 1978, she took over her family’s leather goods company and transformed it into one of the world’s top luxury brands.
Prada’s design philosophy was initially shaped by her feminist beliefs, which influenced her choice of fabrics and silhouettes. She was known for her minimalistic and functional approach, which aimed to challenge traditional ideas of beauty and elegance. Her collections stood out for their understated elegance and unconventional use of materials.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Prada became increasingly recognized for her innovative designs and her brand’s expansion into ready-to-wear collections. Prada also expanded into other areas, such as accessories, perfumes, and eyewear, further cementing its status as a luxury behemoth.
