Biography
Selena Gomez was born on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her parents named her Selena after the famous Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez who passed away in 1995. Gomez’s mother, a former stage actress, encouraged her to pursue a career in the entertainment industry from a young age.
Gomez started her acting career at the age of seven with a small role in the TV series “Barney & Friends”. She continued working on the series for two years and appeared in 14 episodes. She then moved on to Disney Channel where she starred in the hit TV series, “Wizards of Waverly Place”. She played the lead character, Alex Russo, for four seasons from 2007 to 2012.
In addition to her TV roles, Gomez has also appeared in several films such as “Another Cinderella Story”, “Monte Carlo”, and “Spring Breakers”. She received critical acclaim for her role in “Spring Breakers” which was released in 2012.
Apart from acting, Gomez is also a talented musician. She started her music career in 2009 with her debut album, “Kiss & Tell”. The album reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA. She has since released several more albums and singles, including “Revival” which was released in 2015.
Gomez is also an active philanthropist. In 2008, she was named the youngest UNICEF ambassador at the age of 16. She has advocated for children’s rights and has launched several campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of education and healthcare for children around the world.
Gomez has had several high-profile relationships in the past with stars such as Justin Bieber and The Weeknd. She has been very open about her struggles with mental health and has spoken out about the importance of seeking help when struggling with mental health issues.
In 2017, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant due to complications from lupus. Her friend and actress, Francia Raisa, donated a kidney to her. Gomez then took a break from her career to focus on her recovery. She has since returned to work and has released new music and starred in the hit TV series “Selena + Chef”.
