Thailand’s Central Group and Austria-based Signa Holding have successfully completed their acquisition of the prestigious luxury retailer Selfridges Group from the Weston Family. The integration process has already begun, as Selfridges is being merged with Central and Signa’s existing operations. This merger will combine the Selfridges portfolio, which includes iconic stores like Selfridges in the UK, Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland, and De Bijenkorf in the Netherlands, with Central and Signa’s impressive portfolio of 22 luxury department stores. Additionally, the group has plans in place to open two new stores in Dusseldorf and Vienna in the near future.

With this acquisition, Selfridges Group now becomes part of a larger conglomerate that includes Central’s Rinascente in Italy, Illum in Denmark, as well as the jointly owned Central-Signa stores KaDeWe, Oberpollinger, and Alsterhaus in Germany, and Globus in Switzerland. This consolidation of luxury department stores under one umbrella marks an important step in the expansion and growth of the group’s global presence.

Stefano Della Valle, the CEO of Central and Signa’s luxury department store group in Europe, will be assuming an enhanced role and taking the lead in guiding Selfridges Group. However, the current Managing Director of Selfridges, Anne Pitcher, will continue to be a part of the leadership team until the end of the year to ensure a seamless transition into the newly-formed group.

The co-chairmen of the conglomerate will be Tos Chirathivat, CEO and Executive Chairman of Central, and Dieter Berninghaus, Chairman of Signa. In a joint statement, they emphasized their dedication to reshaping and reinventing the luxury retail industry. The vision of the group is to create the world’s foremost luxury omnichannel platform, which will serve customers through both online and offline channels. They eagerly anticipate collaborating with their new colleagues and brand partners to achieve this vision.
