niood lists you the 10 most sustainable hotels in Miami:

1. 1 Hotel South Beach

Miami Beach, FL 33139, United States

From $500 per night
ETIC Hotels Green Score: 9.5/10

What makes 1 Hotel South Beach sustainable?
Energy binds everything and everyone, but we also need it to keep the lights on. We have implemented a wide range of energy, WATER, and environmental design strategies to keep our footprint small.

We believe that all food should be good, clean and fair; delicious and nutritious food is a right; natural resources should be protected for future generations; people and the environment depend on one another; and the dignity of labor from field to fork should be fought for.

We look to spark conversations about the environment and our role in protecting it. We do this through organized volunteer activities and paid volunteer days for our teams, advocacy and educational initiatives like our partnerships with organizations such as the NRDC.

4. The Miami Beach EDITION

Miami Beach, FL 33140, United States

From $550 per night
ETIC Hotels Green Score: 9.5/10

What makes The Miami Beach EDITION sustainable?
This year, one of our favorite initiatives comes from Edition Hotels. The Ian Schrager-led boutique brand has smartly tapped the passion of its VP of Brand Experience, Ben Pundole, to launch Stay Plastic Free, which he describes as “a campaign helping to take single-use plastics out of the hotel industry.”

To that end, Edition announced a partnership with upstart bottled-water company Just, whose sustainably sourced H2O arrives in paper-based “bottles” with wide-mouth cap structures made from biodegradable sugarcane-derived plastic. Very notably, unlike common polyethylene terephthalate bottles, which if refilled can leach toxic chemicals, Just bottles are made to be reused.

5. The Palms Hotel & Spa

Miami Beach, FL 33140, United States

From $300 per night
ETIC Hotels Green Score: 9.5/10

What makes The Palms Hotel & Spa sustainable?
It is our goal to operate with absolutely no use of disposable plastics by the end of 2021 (COVID-19 health & safety guidelines permitting). So far, we have added in-room aluminum and cardboard water bottles, along with aluminum water bottles in meeting rooms. We have implemented eco-friendly take-away containers made of bagasse, biodegradable drinking straws made from agave fiber, and use corn-starch cutlery at the pool & beach. We have implemented refillable, eco-friendly BeeKind in-room shower amenities to each guest bathroom, as well as offering cloth in-room dry-cleaning bags. We will be contracting with a dry-cleaning service that prioritizes sustainability practices and eliminate plastic garment bags. Future initiatives also include eliminating plastic key cards. Currently our plastic key cards are sanitized and recycled.

At The Palms Hotel & Spa, we are committed to the conservation of natural resources wherever possible. Our bathrooms are installed with low flow showers and sinks, in addition to eco-friendly toilets. Our quick-dry bathrobes, linen/towel re-use program, and guest in-room program allow for more conservation of materials, while LED lighting and UV windows throughout the hotel allow for more environmentally friendly use of electricity.

10. Mandarin Oriental, Miami

Miami, FL 33131, United States

From $600 per night
ETIC Hotels Green Score: 9.5/10

What makes Mandarin Oriental Miami sustainable?

We have implemented several measures across our hotel which align with our group-wide policy of eliminating single-use plastic by March 2021. This includes the introduction of an on-site water filtration system to replace and reduce plastic bottle consumption by producing enough for 700 glass bottles a day. Other initiatives include switching to disposable food containers and removing plastic straws.

Using the ORCA food composting system, we are able to sustainably break down and compost organic food waste. Glass bottles can be crushed and reduced in volume by 10:1 with our GLSand machine to create a sand-like substance that can be transferred to beaches, while soap and bottled amenities from guest rooms are regularly recycled.

The use of LED retrofit lights means we’ve been able to contribute to a decrease of 1,712,727.42 KW hours from 2017-2019, representing a .84% energy consumption reduction. Mandarin Oriental, Miami also takes part in Earth Hour each year by turning off all-non-essential lights on the designated date.
