Hiding the face but revealing the look, it is warm, soft and getting more and more glamorous. The balaclava is the must-have accessory for this winter. According to Lyst, searches for Balaclava – its original name – have increased by 64% in the last two weeks alone, demonstrating that, after a period of three years, it is officially back among the winter trends. However, if in 2018 it was only a good compromise to avoid being cold, today wearing it means combining business with pleasure because the balaclava grants that sense of protection to which the obligation to wear a mask has accustomed us.

From military, wearing balaclavas has extended to different contexts, from the world of gangsters to the one of rap, from activism with Pussy Riot (the Russian punk rock feminist collective that acts under strict anonymity), to finally land in fashion. Nowadays, however, balaclavas have been stripped of its subversive power and, thanks to stylists, have become glamorous. Gucci decorated it in a sumptuous way, while the version proposed by Miu Miu, in the show in Cortina, revealed its informal and optimistic soul thanks to a multicolor proposal. Max Mara makes it refined by declining it in soft beige wool to match the rest of the look.
