The Met Gala 2022 was heralded as the most lavish edition ever, and expectations were not disappointed. The gala dinner organized by Anna Wintour, the director of Vogue, at the Metropolitan Museum in New York was a triumph of sparkling dresses, corsets, gloves and dream jewelry. The theme of the event this year was Gilded Glamor, in reference to the golden Gilded Age of the late nineteenth century, when the rampant American elite rivaled in pomp.

The gala dinner takes place behind closed doors, but the beating heart of the event is the red carpet, where the stars have outdone themselves with their looks: the Ferragnez paraded with coordinated golden looks, while Kim Kardashian amazed everyone with a Marilyn Monroe blonde hair. From Blake Lively’s color-changing dress to Gigi Hadid’s maxi red coat, here are the photos of the looks that made the history of the 2022 Met Gala.

Blake Lively with the color-changing Versace dress

Godmother of the event was Blake Lively, one of the “co-hosts” of the evening with her husband Ryan Reynolds. The actress is a veteran of the event, but this time she surpassed herself: she wore a long dress with corset, gloves and maxi train, in perfect Gilded Age style. The spectacular Atelier Versace creation had a peculiarity: it changed color, passing from bronze to blue.

Probably a tribute to the Statue of Liberty, which oxidizes over time and turns green. The actress completed the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a tiara on her loose hair.

Jared Leto and Alessandro Michele “twins” on the red carpet

Who’s Who? The singer and actor Jared Leto and the Gucci stylist Alessandro Michele played on their similarity, presenting themselves with identical outfits: not only did they wear the same cream-colored suit with black gloves, but they took care of every detail, from the hair to the beard, up to the Sun glasses. Impossible (or almost) to distinguish them: for sure there is the look, signed by Gucci.

Kim Kardashian in the Marylin Monroe dress

After surprising everyone in 2021 by showing up at the Met Gala with her face covered, Kim Kardashian wanted to pay homage to a diva from the past, Marilyn Monroe. On the red carpet she walked with a brand new platinum blonde hair and a nude dress studded with crystals. Impossible not to recognize it: it is the iconic transparent dress designed by Bob Mackie with which the diva sang “Happy Birthday Mister President”.

This time Kim Kardashian was accompanied by Pete Davidson, her new boyfriend, and the entire Kardashian-Jenner “clan”. The stars of the reality show of the same name made a “family” appearance at the Met: Kris Jenner wore a lemon yellow peplum dress by Oscar De La Renta, Kylie Jenner instead sported a wedding dress with a baseball cap, a rare couture creation of the Off White brand.

Emily Ratajkowski in an Atelier Versace SS 1992 Collection ensemble

Emily Ratajkowski made a splash on the Met Gala red carpet in yet another breathtaking look. From the Atelier Versace spring/summer 1992 collection, the ensemble was originally worn by supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri on the runway.

The star-studded event happens to fall on Donatella Versace’s birthday, which the model made a personal nod to on Instagram earlier in the day captioned: “Happy birthday to the queen, I am honoured to know you.” Emrata’s look is a great gift to the queen, indeed.

Hailey Bieber wearing the only Saint Laurent dress of the evening

Just months after the Biebers’ first Met Gala appearance as a couple, Hailey Bieber returned to this evening’s Gilded Glamour event on her own. Justin’s absence is understandable, given the singer just did a concert last night in Texas as part of his ongoing tour.

Hailey wore Saint Laurent on the red carpet, pairing a white high leg slit dress from the house with a feathered wrap and sheer black tights.

Cara Delevingne in a suit at the Met Gala

Cara Delevingne has always stood out for her originality and for her provocative soul but it is at the Met Gala 2022 that she gave the best of her. Although it was not the first time that she followed the mannish fashion trend, on this occasion she declined the craze in a hyper sensual version.

She relied on the elegance of Dior by sporting a red suit with satin trousers and an irregularly cut jacket with buttons decorated with matching ropes. To complete it all, she chose a pair of pumps with heels and maxi plateaus in the same shade, a cascade of gold chain necklaces and a cane in full English lord style.

Irina Shayk’s leather look

Irina Shayk was among the celebrities who brought a touch of novelty to the Met Gala 2022. If Cara Delevingne declined the mannish trend in a hyper sensual way with her gold nipple covers, the Russian-born model preferred to transform into a motorcyclist.

To sign her all-leather look was the Maison Burberry, the creative director Riccardo Tisci (with whom she also shares a deep friendship) tailored for her a total black suit with biker jacket, slightly coordinated flared trousers and a corset worn over shirt and tie. To top it all off, a pair of pointed camperos and extra-sized hoop earrings. Irina then kept her hair loose and straight, while as far as the make-up is concerned, she focused on tones so natural that they almost seem to have no make-up.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz: first event after marriage

Among the most photographed of the event are the newlyweds Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz: the couple (who now has the same surname) walked the first red carpet as husband and wife. White tuxedo for him, pink draped dress for her with plunging neckline. They both wore Valentino dresses.

Kendall Jenner in a black ball gown from Prada

The model and reality star wore a black ball gown from Prada that featured an extra-long train along with ruching on the skirt, as well as a top made of sheer fishnet. The bodice features embroidery and jeweled accents. She wore diamond drop earrings from Lorraine Schwartz.

But what made her look even more striking were her bleached eyebrows. Her recently dyed auburn hair was back to its chestnut brown shade as it flowed behind her in soft waves.

Perfectly adhering to the “Gilded Glamour” dress code (which takes inspiration from New York’s Gilded Age, the period between 1870 and 1890), Chamberlain was wearing a custom two-piece look by Louis Vuitton, which included a yellow, puff-sleeve crop top and tiara, as well as a variety of stunning Cartier jewels.

Donatella Versace celebrated her birthday at the Met Gala

For the designer Donatella Versace it was a truly special Met Gala: yesterday she turned 67 and she celebrated her birthday at the glamorous event of the year. On the red carpet she wore a semi-transparent bustier dress with blue and gold embroidery.

Not only that: the Italian designer had the honor of dressing many guests, from Ferragnez to Blake Lively, up to Cardi B, who wore a truly amazing dress of golden chains. In Versace also Gigi Hadid, with a flaming look: fiery red corset, patent leather leggings and a quilted maxi-jacket that enveloped her like a cape.
