The Best Red Carpet Dresses of Cannes Film Festival 2022
Cannes Film Festival is back and we're so excited about the red carpet looks!

The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has started, the film event on the Côte d’Azur which from 17 to 28 May will see several films presented in world premieres. Beyond the premieres, the French town will be overrun with parties, screenings and parties of all kinds and it is not surprising that the stars compete for media attention.
niood lists the Best Red Carpet Dresses of Cannes Film Festival 2022:
The total black red carpet is one of Bella Hadid’s musts. She recently walked with her sister at the Prince’s Trust Global Gala, wearing a vintage black Dior dress (designed by Yves Saint Laurent in 1959) paired with long gloves, Christian Louboutin pumps and Chopard diamond jewelry. She too opted for total black at the Cannes Film Festival, enchanting the red carpet with her elegance.
The model opted for a vintage Versace garment: the dress is part of the Italian Maison’s Spring 1987 collection. It is a refined black velvet dress that makes you think of the glamor of old Hollywood, of the most chic divas ever.
For the great return to the Cannes Film Festival Sophie Marceau wanted to focus on something that could hardly have gone unnoticed: a total red look. She wore a fiery red jumpsuit, a strapless model with palazzo pants so wide that at first glance they seemed to be a maxi skirt. She didn’t keep her shoulders bare, she completed the outfit with a very long diva cape tied around her neck. To top it all off, she chose a pair of matching sandals with a stiletto heel and a high ponytail, so as to highlight both the iconic fringe and Chopard’s large white gold and diamond hoops.
The actress enchanted the red carpet on the evening of May 22, when she took part in the screening of Forever Young (Les Amandiers). The 64-year-old caught everyone’s attention with a colorful dress with an original peculiarity: a pompous and wide detachable skirt. She removed it right in front of the photographers. The Maison that created the “transformable” dress for her is Dolce & Gabbana, the brand that continued to accompany her also in the second red carpet of the event.
Total black looks are symbols of refinement and timeless class and Carla Bruni seems to have understood this well, given that in Cannes she is focusing almost exclusively on black. For the photocall of the Women in Motion Awards she relied on Maison Saint Laurent, which designed for her a delightful slip dress, a model with thin straps and drapes along the entire silhouette. Bvlgari’s maxi diamond-studded necklace enriched the outfit with a sparkling touch.
The Black Venus is a legend of the catwalks: still today she parades, poses for magazines and boasts a sculpted physique, immune to the passage of time. Naomi Campbell yesterday celebrated her birthday at the “Celebration of Woman in Cinema” gala event, where she showed off a Valentino dress entirely covered in fuchsia flowers.
For the Cannes red carpet, however, Naomi Campbell has decided to rely on the timeless elegance of total black by showing off a haute couture creation: an evening dress with a voluminous skirt and a plunging V-neckline. The plunging neckline of the dress welcomed a breathtaking jewel: a woven necklace by Bvlgari, with a bright blue center stone.
The real star of the couple’s red carpet was Tina Kunakey. The model appeared splendid in a long apple green dress, a strapless and bodycon suit, with the skirt that sinuously falls to the floor and a maxi train on the back. To complete it all were a pair of elbow-length gloves in total white in full Hollywood diva style. Who signed the total outfit? Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of Valentino, who chose one of the looks from the Anatomy of Couture Spring / Summer 2022 collection for Vincent Cassel’s wife. The matching sandals with stiletto heels and the laces around the ankle were instead signed by Amina Muaddi.
For Cannes 2022, Emrata opted for a transparent dress in black lace embroidered with a floral pattern and embellished with beads. It has a maxi back slit and a wide neckline, thin straps and a leather belt under the breast. The model paired it with a pair of open toe sandals with platform and ankle strap, with a very thin vertiginous heel: they are the Max model by Jimmy Choo. This time she replaced the extra smooth crease we had recently seen her with with a slightly wavy hair, also adding the bangs, a touch she has experienced before over the years. Very soft and natural make-up, with nude lips in the foreground.
To present her new film in Cannes, Marion Cotillard has focused on the timeless elegance of total black, even if she has declined it in a glamorous and sensual version that is anything but sober. She relied on the sophistication of Chanel, who designed a short black jumpsuit with bold transparencies for her. She is a high-necked model, with shorts that have left the legs in sight, a logo-colored belt that has marked the waist and transparent sleeves. Furthermore, at the height of her bust there are crystal decorations that reproduce the iconic double C symbol of the French Maison. To complete it all, the actress chose a pair of black pumps with heels, sheer tights and a cherry-colored lipstick.
The Hollywood actress took part in the screening of Armageddon Time, a film by James Gray in competition at Cannes which sees her as the protagonist. Also in the cast are Anthony Hopkins and Jeremy Strong. For the 39-year-old it was the first time at the festival. She lit up the red carpet with a total white, angelic and luminous outfit. It is a customized Giorgio Armani Privé creation embellished with white sequins.
The long and tight skirt is embellished on the back with a romantic bow that extends into a train. The top is bandeau, strapless, with a subtle cut under the bust. She completed the look with a pair of silver-colored slingbacks and precious Bvlgari jewels.
For the prestigious Film Festival, she decided to raise the stakes by sporting an elegant black suit: it is a reinterpretation of a men’s tailcoat signed by Louis Vuitton, with shiny lapels on the jacket and the classic “tails” long to the knee.
The actress completed the look with a pair of simple René Caovilla strappy sandals and left her hair natural, with a cascade of fluffy mahogany curls. Minimal and refined, once again Julia Roberts hits the mark with the elegance of simplicity.
Alessandra Ambrosio has always been an icon of glamor and sensuality: the model arrived in Cannes for the premiere of the film Armageddon Time and walked the red carpet with a very particular couture creation by Stephane Rolland. The evening dress had a voluminous white skirt but no bodice: her upper body remained entirely naked, were it not for some sparkling appliqués artfully arranged to cover her breasts. Her nude look hides a trick: it seems that the glittering stones are “up” on their own, but they are actually sewn onto an impalpable transparent body that leaves the back bare.
The 47-year-old actress chose a sparkling silver mirror effect dress by Martina Ottaviano, with completely bare shoulders and a bold slit at the back. She paired it with high-heeled platform sandals and completed the look with Chopard silver pendants, highlighted even more by her hair styled in a high ponytail. Definitely glamorous, this time Eva Longoria was anything but as a desperate housewife.
The model chose a color that could not go unnoticed, the fire red, even if she has declined it in a super elegant version. She wore a long and sinuous Celine maxi dress, a model with a straight halter neckline that highlighted the impeccable silhouette. To top it all off, she chose a pair of black stiletto heel sandals, diamond earrings by Tiffany & Co. and a bon-ton harvest.
