Unilever Ventures, the venture arm of beauty and wellness giant Unilever, has recently announced a further investment of A$4 million in Australian scalp care brand Straand. This investment comes as Straand aims to accelerate its international growth and follows an earlier investment by Unilever Ventures, showcasing the brand’s potential in the industry.

Co-founder of Straand, Sarah Hamilton, mentioned that the initial funds were used to build a brand that promotes a positive attitude towards scalp issues. She believes that there is still significant interest in beauty and brands that receive early-stage support from retailers. Straand has set ambitious goals for 2024, aiming to triple its revenues with a long-term target of achieving sales of over A$25 million within five years.

On the retail front, Straand has secured a deal with Sephora, a renowned beauty retailer, which will make its products available in over 70 stores across Australia, Southeast Asia, and the UK. Additionally, the brand has expanded its presence in the US through partnerships with popular retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, and Amazon. Straand products are also available at Adore Beauty in Australia and through cross-border e-commerce in China. Moreover, the brand has plans to enter the Middle Eastern market.

Initially launching with four wet products, including shampoo, conditioner, scalp serum, and scrub, Straand has seen impressive growth in sales this year. In fact, the US market has experienced a significant increase of 130% month-on-month. Rachel Harris, partner at Unilever Ventures, emphasized the global significance of scalp concerns such as dandruff and expressed excitement about the brand’s prospects for further growth.

With the additional funding from Unilever Ventures and first-time beauty financier Harvey Family Office, Straand is now in a favorable position to expand its presence both domestically and internationally. The brand’s focus on scalp care and its partnerships with reputable retailers are expected to contribute to its continued success in the beauty industry. As consumers become increasingly aware of the importance of hair and scalp health, Straand’s high-quality products are well-equipped to meet their needs.
