Vince Holding Corp., a fashion group based in New York, has announced a decrease in net sales for the fourth quarter of 2020. The preliminary results for the quarter ending on January 30, 2021, show a year-over-year decline of 28.4% in net sales, highlighting the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the company’s operations.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Vince reported net sales of $74.8 million, a decrease from $104.4 million in the same period the previous year. The decline was primarily driven by a 20.4% decrease in sales at the Vince brand, which amounted to $69.5 million. Additionally, the Rebecca Taylor and Parker business experienced a significant decline of 68.9%, with sales totaling $5.3 million.

The Vince brand’s wholesale revenues reached $39.1 million, a 12.9% decrease compared to the prior-year period, while direct-to-consumer sales fell 28.4% to $30.4 million. Despite these declines, Vince Holding’s CFO, Dave Stefko, emphasized that the company has seen sequential improvements in sales. He specifically mentioned the growth in retail sales within the wholesale channel and expressed confidence in the brand’s position in the contemporary luxury category.

For the full fiscal year 2020, Vince Holding reported total net sales of $219.9 million, a 41.4% decrease compared to $375.2 million in fiscal 2019. Sales at the Vince brand fell by 36.0% to $192.1 million, while Rebecca Taylor and Parker posted sales of $27.8 million, reflecting a 62.9% decrease. The company’s operating loss for the year was $61.1 million.

Looking ahead, Stefko remains optimistic about the future prospects of Vince Holding. He highlighted the positive response to the relaunch of the Vince brand for the spring season and emphasized the company’s focus on cost controls and liquidity optimization as they position their brands for the future. CEO Jack Schwefel, who was recently appointed, also expressed excitement about the potential of both the Vince and Rebecca Taylor and Parker brands. He stressed the importance of executing an omnichannel strategy and utilizing a data-driven approach to merchandising and marketing.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, Vince Holding did not provide financial guidance for fiscal 2021. The company currently operates 71 company-operated stores and plans to report its complete fourth-quarter and full-year 2020 financial results alongside its annual report. Overall, the company remains hopeful about its future as it navigates through the recovery of the macro-environment and continues to adapt to the evolving retail landscape.
