Wolf & Badger, the renowned multichannel retailer that specializes in independent brands, defied the odds in 2020 and achieved a successful year despite the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the company had to temporarily close its flagship stores in London and New York City during the lockdowns, it experienced a significant increase in global sales.

The driving force behind this growth was the surge in online sales, which soared by an impressive 92% throughout the year. Wolf & Badger also reported a remarkable overall annual revenue growth of 79.1%. In its momentous 10th anniversary year, the company sold a staggering total of 253,902 items online and attracted a remarkable 14.7 million visitors to its e-commerce platform. Notably, 109,779 of these visitors were new customers.

Several key factors contributed to the company’s success in 2020. One notable trend was the skyrocketing sales of lingerie and nightwear, which saw an astonishing 625% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, revenue from blankets and throws experienced a significant rise of 556%. The Covid-19 pandemic had a profound impact on consumer behavior, driving a heightened demand for comfort-oriented products like these.

Another significant development for Wolf & Badger was the introduction of face coverings to its range of brands. A total of 81 designers featured face masks in their collections, with many utilizing leftover materials and fabric scraps. In total, nearly 10,000 face masks were sold through the platform in 2020.

Furthermore, the company witnessed a growth in the number of active brands utilizing its platform, experiencing an impressive 93.6% increase. The number of brands rose from 564 in December 2019 to 1,092 by the end of the previous month. These brands originated from 56 different countries, emphasizing the global reach of Wolf & Badger. Many labels turned to the platform as their traditional sales channels faced disruptions due to the pandemic.

Recognizing the growing global focus, Wolf & Badger took deliberate steps to enhance its internationalization capabilities. In May, the company introduced multi-currency and global sizing support to cater to its international customer base. It also dedicated efforts to ensure smooth operations before and after Brexit. Through its partnership with DHL, the company now provides duty and tax-inclusive shipping to customers in the UK, EU, Australia, US, and Canada, irrespective of the suppliers’ location. These efforts resulted in a 144% increase in US sales, a staggering 1,048% growth in Australian sales, and a notable 414% rise in Canadian sales compared to 2019. Overall, international customers accounted for 46% of the company’s sales in 2020.

Wolf & Badger’s exceptional performance in 2020 showcases its resilience and ability to adapt to challenging circumstances. The company’s emphasis on online sales, expansion of its brand offerings, and commitment to international growth have undoubtedly borne fruit. As Wolf & Badger enters its second decade in the industry, it is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of success.
